Rekindle an Old Flame

by L. Smith

Have you ever wondered "What if?"

More specifically, "What if I'd had the courage to ask her out way back when..." or "What if we'd worked it out and stayed together?"  Who hasn't?   If you find yourself back in the dating market again, this is definitely something  to consider if you're searching for romance again.

Does anyone ever re-ignite the spark of an old flame? Yes, they do.   Rekindling the fires of long lost romance is becoming more and more popular, especially now that the Internet has made it easy to reconnect with old friends. Baby Boomers and Generation X-ers who are back in the dating game again after divorce or other reasons can find it wonderful to be back in a circle of familiar faces.  After years of concentrating on careers, they are now ready to put their relationships first. If you're in this situation, the timing is perfect to reconnect with classmates and school pals. Even if you didn't have an old flame from high school that you'd consider, your old pals might know someone who would be perfect for you.  You really have nothing to lose by catching up with old friends.

If you need some inspiration, grab the book, My Boyfriend's Back, by Donna Hanover. She was previously married to former New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani. After her divorce, she reunited with her high school boyfriend from 30 years earlier. He apologized for the breakup, and they rekindled their relationship and then were married a year later!  She realized that she wasn't the only one with this kind of an experience, and she began interviewing other couples who had also reunited with old flames. Some had been apart only a few years and some for much longer. Many of them were divorced. The book is a wonderfully inspiring and has stories about other well known couples who found love again with an old flame.

It's really easier than you think. For starters, don't skip your class reunions. But, if you can't wait until the next 10 year, or 20 year anniversary, then the easiest way to get started immediately is through the Internet with a site such as Classmates.com.  It's free to register yourself so you can see who else from your school is looking to reconnect. What are you waiting for? Haven't you waited long enough already?

I recently had the oppportunity to attend my 20 year high school class reunion. Most of my friends and aquaintences I had not seen in 20 years and yet, we recognized each other immediately and had so much history in common that we really were old friends.  Everyone was happily surprised to see that two of our  classmates had gotten together several years after graduation and were now married!  They had not dated while we were all in high school, and now here they were married. It just goes to show that you may have already met your "Mr/Mrs Right" and just weren't aware of it at the time, or the timing just wasn't right.

If after considering your old flame experiences, you decide you would really rather start with someone completely new, then look at all your options for meeting people via Internet dating.  Romance is not far away.  You don't have to be lonely - love is out there waiting for you to find it!
